Marry McShane Jeter, 75, of Columbia, died Sunday, March 27, 2022, after a brief hospitalization. Born November 14, 1946, in Winnsboro, SC, he was a son of the late William Gist and Lula Coleman Jeter.
Mr. Jeter was a US Army veteran who honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. Following his active military service, Mr. Jeter served in the US Army Reserves and retired as a Master Sergeant after 25 years. He was employed as a letter carrier with the USPS for 37 years until his retirement in 2021. He was a former member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) and was an active member of both the Jeter and the Coleman-Feaster-Mobley Family Associations. Mr. Jeter enjoyed family genealogy, US history, Jeopardy, and being involved in family life. His greatest legacy will be as a husband, father, and grandfather (Pop).
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Teresa Sigers Jeter; son, Everett McShane Jeter (Morgan) of Matthews, NC; daughter, Laura Jeter Scales of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Evan Adele Jeter, Elam James Jeter, Banner Elise Scales, and Chanie Isabelle Scales; brother, William Jeter (Debbie) of Raleigh, NC; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
The graveside service for Mr. Jeter will be held at 1 o'clock, Wednesday, April 6th at the Jeter Family Cemetery, 310 Jeter Cemetery Road, Carlisle, SC 29031. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
